Postal Strike Pending!

Our Posties have voted over 90% in favour of strike action in light of Management's refusal to pay the rural and urban letter-carriers equally.

I support this strike despite the disruption it will bring.

The rural drivers (who are mostly women) get paid by the mile whereas the urban letter-carriers (mostly male) get paid hourly. It works out that the rural letter-carriers get a lower hourly wage. Why? I don't see how the Management can be arguing against this. It seems the easiest thing in the world to fix: just pay them a fair wage.

If they are worried about the impact to the budget, there is an easy solution: start cutting the executive salaries. About 50% should more than take care of all Canada Post's woes. Canada Post has been poorly run for over 40 years; are they ever going to attempt to do things better?

The Spice Must Flow!

...or, more importantly, the mail must!

Last week Canada Post and the Union reached at least a temporary settlement (I believe 1 year) while management studies why it pays its female workers less than the males. (Rural deliveries are paid at a lower rate than urban, and are predominately female, so a bit of spin there but then I am generally opposed to Canada Post's management so there you go.) The bottom line is the mail is flowing again without any likely disruptions for hopefully the next year at least. Yay!

Update...

The government has tabled legislation to force the Post Office union back to work. It's a bit draconian as the legislation will apparently force them to accept less than Canada Post was offering (their strike was about other issues, including safety.)

OTOH, it will allow us to sell our product, so that is a good thing for us anyway. Especially as I have sculptor's invoices waiting to be paid!

In the meantime I have actually started painting again after a lapse of close to two years. If I can take some decent pictures I intend to chronicle my progress on my Heroes of the Age blog - it's meant to be my "gaming in Tekumel" blog, after all. The finished product will end up on our Tekumel Club pages. Right now I'm researching traditional Indian fabric patterns.

The Feds Step In...

Looks like the government is going to legislate the postal workers back to work. Ordinarily I wouldn't object to the strike, but now that I have a mail order business it is just a bit "inconvenient."

Lock Out!

Canada Post has locked out it's striking Union workers, so we are shut down for a bit - unless anyone wants to use a courier service(?)

Postal Strike!

Canada Post has gone on strike - the union started rotating walk-outs last night.

And I've ordered 50 sets each of the Sacrifice set, the Puppet Master vignette and Princess Vrisa, along with 30 of each of the column prisoners. Probably have them, via courier, by the end of the month, if not sooner.
